Once a song is published to Xbox Live Marketplace, there is no way to change it. Album art, genre, artist name, song name, etc. are all basically fixed for eternity. That's why it's so important to get it right.

You can change nothing else about your song once it's published. Even if you misspeell your band name the only recourse is to unpublish the song and submit it through the whole process again. Even that is problematic, since having two versions of the same song is messy for a lot of reasons.

There are some other things to consider when publishing songs as well: if you are submitting a playtest for someone else who will eventually submit for Review, you need to change either the band or song name (to avoid name collision checks we do).

Re-Record naming convention

Also, if you are submitting a re-record (there was a Romantics tune up here a bit ago), you should make sure that is clear in the title as well, in case we (or anyone else) ever decides to release the original. The name should have the year of re-record appended (for example: "Talking In My Sleep '09", and the album should either reference the re-record ("Re-record 2009") or accurately name the new album that it appears on (a compilation, best of, or whatever), and not list the original album name.

Price Changes

The only thing that you can change is the price. There will be an interface exposed at creators.rockband.com to allow you to "suggest" a new price once per quarter. You have to have a valid App Hub membership in order to access this information.

We don't know yet if we are going to allow everyone to change the price every three months, or if it's every 120 days from when you submit, and every 120 days after. Probably the latter.

RBN Songs In-Game

Where do RBN songs appear in Rock Band 3? After you purchase them (or download a demo), they appear in the setlist along with all the other songs. Nothing distinguishes them from Harmonix-authored "official" DLC except their "Source" sort (RB1, RB2, RB3, DLC, RBN, etc.)

The "Sub Genre" field is not shown in-game, but can be accessed from the Music Store when sorting by genre. RBN songs will appear with non-RBN songs of the same genre.

RBN songs used a fixed value for each difficulty tier instead of official DLC's more granular system. As such, all RBN songs will appear adjacent to one another in their appropriate difficulty tiers when sorting by difficulty.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All RBN 2.0 songs (songs released after February 14, 2011) are not compatible with Rock Band or Rock Band 2. These songs can only be played in Rock Band 3.

Demo Versions of Songs

Every approved song will go up onto Xbox Live Marketplace with two offers: one is a demo version of the song, and the other is the full version.

When you go to the song detail page in the store you have the option of purchasing the song or downloading the demo. Both actions lead to a song file downloaded onto your 360. Afterwards, the demo appears in your song list normally, except that there is an orange "DEMO" flag over the album art.

Demos cannot be played via Xbox Live multiplayer (but can be played local multiplayer). You don't get any achievements for Demos, or stars. You can't put them in setlists, they don't appear in World Tour, etc. Demos are only available for Xbox 360, we don't currently have any plans to support them for the PS3 or Wii.

If you play it, after 1 minute or 35% of the song length, whichever is shorter, the song stops abruptly. You have the option to purchase it, delete it from memory, or restart. If you purchase it at this point the conversion to the full song version only takes a few seconds. This is because the demo file is the full version of the song, and the "purchase" action is basically just flipping some permission bits in the dashboard.

You can play the demo song as many times as you want, and have as many of them as you want in your song list.
